WEREBEASTS

SUMMARY

The werebeast is a more feral, animalistic mutation of the shapeshifter, able to switch between a human form and a beast form under the right circumstances. They originate from the surface, although many were chased into the underground during the rise of jyokann discrimination.

CHARACTERISTICS

In human form, their heights are on average between 5ft10 to 6ft5 to fit in best with their human counterparts. All human forms regardless of biological sex will have darker, coarser, and more abundant body hair than their full human counterparts.

In beast form they range from 7ft to 9ft tall and a lot more stocky in their build. The beast form appears like a mixture of human and beast, capable of walking on its hind legs like a human would, or on all four legs like a beast. It’s more common for them to hunt on all four legs as this gives them the added speed needed to more efficiently chase their prey. Female werebeasts are typically larger than the males.

Werebeast's human forms match the typical colourings of their human relatives. Their beast forms will usually take colouring similar to an existing normal beast species, for example red wolves or lynxes. This is mostly chosen based on location and genetics, and can sometimes result in a mix-breed werebeast.

BEHAVIOUR

The werebeasts, much like vampires, commonly form family groups which are known as packs. Werebeasts are a matriarchal species, with the older women of each pack acting as the leaders and the ones with most power. Similarly to vampires, a pack of werebeasts will also commonly live together, however instead of owning one large house they will usually own a section of forested land where they can make dens and homes to their liking.

BREEDING/COURTSHIP BEHAVIOUR PLACEHOLDER

When in their human form, a werebeast can eat anything a human can, however a werebeast cannot eat food that is also toxic to canines or felines. This includes chocolate, garlic, onions, and grapes to name a few. This rule counts for both their human and beast forms. A werebeast in their human form will usually crave protein heavy meals, and when in their beast form will only eat meat. A beast has a preference for raw meats, typically enjoying chasing prey for their meals rather than being given the food outright.

HEALTH

The average lifespan of a werebeast is between 500 and 600 years old, although there have been a few cases of werebeasts who have made it to 900 years old with the right conditions. This is still a rare phenomenon however, and is not counted in the average.

Werebeasts have a significantly lower alcohol tolerance than humans do, and most choose to avoid it entirely. Transformations leave aches in the muscles and joints, and have been regularly reported to also cause migraines and severe exhaustion. Transformations have been noted to be worse if the werebeast is hungry, dehydrated, or already injured.

A werebeast is allergic to silver. The metal makes a werebeast's skin itchy, growing welts and sores upon contact. Along with this, being in contact with silver also makes a werebeast near-powerless, removing any of its supernatural abilities.
